Startling photos show one of the worlds largest lakes is drying up
Scientists are studying the phenomenon and are starting to draw some conclusions.
Kazakhstan is one of the leading exporters of batteries for hybrid vehicles. As demand increases for these vehicles water is needed to fill up each battery with water before it leaves the country.
The car battery manufacturing plant is located only a couple miles away from the lake. The plant produces approximately 150 million batteries per year.
This lake drying up will have a ripple effect across the globe. Several species have had to leave the area or have died off due to the water shortage. Some of the plant species in the area are the only of their kind in the world.
The Kazahkstan Government is concerned about the issue and may have to relocate the manufacturing plant.
