The woman, Rickesha Burns, was holding the infant when police responded to a potential child abuse call. Most of what Burns said when the police arrived was not understandable to them as they tried to calm her down and get a status on the child's health.
"It was like she was speaking Arabic really fast while throwing Ebonics on top of that." said one of the first police officers on the scene. "We weren't sure what was going on, and it wasn't for several minutes we realized she was just retarded and that she was talking normally."
The police found that the boy was bleeding from the rectum and immediately transported him to a nearby children's hospital. Doctors found an object inserted into the boys rectum and said that is was most likely "[A] vibrator or some other sex toy." Police had probable cause to arrest Burns based on the doctors findings. The boy is scheduled for surgery and is expected to make a full recovery. However, his mental health will probably be damaged for many decades according to doctors.
When questioned, Burns said that a 12 year boy had most likely done it earlier in the day while visiting a park. She said she looked at her phone for maybe 10 seconds until the toddler started crying near the older boy. Police quickly ruled out the 12 year old or any other parties as being involved.
Burns then admitted to inserting the sex toy in the boys anus: "Well, he like wouldn't stop cryin' and shit, so I was like, what does I do when I'm all buthered? I was like, well I just go get off, so I thought the same would work for him. I was just trying to get him off so he would be relaxed and stop crying."
Burns faces many years in prison depending on the ruling on each count of child abuse, a sexual conduct with a minor. This is the second time Burns has run into Phoenix Police. The last brush with the law was also regarding child abuse.
